Match Summary:
India won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a good start with Shubman Gill scoring 79 before retiring hurt. Kohli and Iyer then took center stage, putting on a partnership of 150 runs for the second wicket. Kohli scored his century in 119 balls, while Iyer reached his in 109 balls.
India’s innings ended with a flourish as they scored 66 runs in the last five overs. They finished their innings on 397-4, the highest score of the tournament.
New Zealand’s chase got off to a poor start as they lost both their openers cheaply. Mitchell then steadied the innings with a brilliant century. He was well supported by Kane Williamson, who scored 78 runs.
However, Shami’s brilliant bowling spell put New Zealand on the back foot. He took five wickets in an over, including the wickets of Mitchell and Williamson. New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 327 runs, losing by 70 runs.
India’s victory was a comprehensive one and they will be confident going into the final.
